Give your classic cinnamon rolls an autumn makeover with these Apple Butter Cinnamon Rolls! Soft, fluffy dough is swirled with rich apple butter, Pioneer Light Brown Sugar, and warm cinnamon, creating a sweet, spiced filling in every bite. Baked in a cast-iron skillet until golden and topped with a tangy apple cider icing, these rolls bring all the cozy flavors of fall to your breakfast table. Serve them warm for a weekend brunch, a holiday gathering, or whenever you’re craving a little homemade comfort.

Instructions:

  1. Activate the yeast. Combine warm milk, yeast, and 1 teaspoon of Pioneer Granulated Sugar in a large bowl. Let stand for about 5 minutes, until foamy.
  2. Make the dough. Mix in the softened butter, eggs, lemon juice, nutmeg, salt, and remaining granulated sugar. Gradually incorporate the bread flour, then knead until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  3. Let rise. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot until doubled in size.
  4. Roll out. Gently deflate the risen dough and knead a few times. On a floured surface, roll into an approximately 18-by-14-inch rectangle.
  5. Fill. Spread apple butter over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Sprinkle Pioneer Light Brown Sugar and cinnamon evenly over the apple butter.
  6. Shape. Starting along a long edge, roll the dough into a log. Cut into 12 rolls and place cut-side up in a buttered 12-inch cast-iron skillet.
  7. Let rise again. Cover and let rise for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  8. Bake. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Bake for 25–30 minutes, until golden brown and the center rolls are cooked through. Loosely cover with foil if the tops brown too quickly. Let cool for about 15 minutes.
  9. Make the icing. Whisk Pioneer Powdered Sugar, apple cider, vanilla, salt, and 1 tablespoon of milk together. Add more milk a little at a time until pourable.
  10. Finish. Spread or drizzle the apple cider icing over the warm rolls and serve.
