  • 2 C all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp. baking powder
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • ½ C unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 C Pioneer® Sugar
  • 1 LG egg, room temperature
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 28 LG sliced almonds
  • red fruit jam or cake decorating gel; optional

  1. Preheat oven to 325° F. Move oven rack to the center of the oven. Spray a rimmed baking sheet with cooking spray or line with parchment paper or silicone baking mat; set aside.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder and salt; set aside.
  3. In another bowl, beat the butter and Pioneer® Sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2 – 3 minutes, scraping down the sides of the bowl with a spatula as needed. Beat in egg and vanilla until smooth. Gradually beat in the flour mixture until a dough forms.
  4. Take about 1 ½ tablespoons of dough and roll between your palms into a 5-inch long finger about ½-inch thick. Firmly press an almond into the end of each finger to make a fingernail. Make several horizontal cuts, about ¼-inch deep and ½-inch long, in the center of each finger to make knuckles. Pinch the dough on either side of the cuts to shape the knuckles. Arrange ‘fingers’ on the prepared baking sheet and bake until light golden (16 – 18 minutes). Transfer to a wire rack and cool completely.
  5. Optional: To make theses fingers spookier, heat some red fruit jam over low heat until warm. Dip the blunt ends of the fingers into the warm jam. Put some ‘blood’ around the almond nails with red decorating gel.Have fun!
