  • 1 ½ C Pioneer® Sugar
  • ½ C butter
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 2 ½ C flour, sifted
  • ½ tsp allspice
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 C dates, pitted & chopped
  • 3 C shelled black or English walnuts, roughly chopped

  1. Preheat oven to 350° F.
  2. In a medium bowl, cream butter and Pioneer® Sugar together. Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each. Dissolve the baking soda in a little hot water, add it to the mixture and stir.
  3. Stir in the flour, allspice and cinnamon; mix well.
  4. Finally, add in the dates and walnuts; mix well so they are evenly distributed in the dough.
  5. Drop by heaping spoonful’s onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 10 – 15 minutes or until golden brown.
  6. Optional: You can change nuts to pecans or almonds and switch out dates for raisins. For a little holiday color, add in or substitute some maraschino cherries for the dates.
