warm freshly baked irish soda bread on slate

Irish Soda Bread

  • 3 C all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • ½ C Pioneer® Sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 ½ C buttermilk
  • ½ C raisins
  • 1 T caraway seed, optional


  1. Preheat oven to 350° F. Lightly greased a springform pan; set aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl combine flour, baking powder, salt, and Pioneer® Sugar; set aside.
  3. In a separate bowl beat eggs with the buttermilk. Add the egg mixture to the flour mixture; stir. Fold in the raisins; Blend well.
  4. Lift dough onto lightly floured board. Shape into a round loaf, adding flour if necessary.
  5. Place in prepared pan. Sprinkle top with caraway seeds if desired.
  6. Bake for 1 hour or until the bottom of the loaf sounds hollow when tapped.
