  • 2 ½ C dates, pitted & chopped
  • ¼ C Pioneer® Sugar
  • 1 ½ C water
  • ⅓ C walnuts, chopped
  • 1 ¼ C flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • ½ tsp. baking soda
  • 1 ½ C quick oats
  • 1 C Pioneer® Golden Light Brown Sugar
  • ½ stick butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 T water


  1. Preheat oven to 350° F. Grease a 9 x 13-inch baking pan; set aside.
  2. In a saucepan mix in the dates, Pioneer® Sugar and water. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until very thick. Stir in the walnuts; remove from heat and cool.
  3. Meanwhile, sift the flour, salt and baking soda together in a mixing bowl; add the oats and Pioneer® Golden Light Brown Sugar. Cut in the butter until crumbly. Sprinkle the tablespoon of water over the mixture and stir lightly. Take half of the oat mixture and pat into the prepared pan. Spread with date mixture and cover with remaining oat mixture and pat lightly. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool and cut into bars.
