  • 2 egg yolks
  • 3 T cocoa
  • 4 T corn starch
  • 3 C milk
  • ½ C Pioneer® Sugar
  • 1 T butter
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 9-inch baked pie shell*
  • whipped topping

  1. Slightly beat egg yolks in saucepan. Add cocoa and corn starch and mix carefully. Add Pioneer® Sugar and 1 cup of milk and mix. Add remaining milk and mix.
  2. Cook over medium-high heat, stirring constantly until thickened. (You have to keep stirring to get it smooth.) After thickened remove the custard from heat and add butter and vanilla. Stir until well blended. Pour into pie shell and cool. Add whipped topping.
  3. If using a meringue as a topping; use 3 yolks in the recipe and use the whites to make the meringue (beat egg whites with 1/3 cup Pioneer® Sugar and 1 tsp. vanilla until stiff peaks form).

Cook's Note

You can use a graham cracker crust instead of a flour pie shell if desired.
