Brownies for the Crowd

  • 1 ½ C flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 C Pioneer® Sugar
  • ½ C + 2 T cocoa
  • 1 C oil
  • 4 eggs
  • ¼ C water
  • 2 tsp. vanilla

Chocolate Frosting:

  • 3 ¾ C Pioneer® Confectioners Powdered Sugar
  • ½ C + 2 T cocoa
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 4 T butter or margarine, softened
  • 5-10 T milk


  1. Preheat oven to 350° F. Grease a 9 x 13-inch baking pan; set aside.
  2. In a large bowl mix flour, salt, Pioneer® Sugar and cocoa together. Add oil, eggs, water, and vanilla. Stir well by hand with a wire whisk.
  3. Pour into prepared pan. Bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, approximately 30 minutes. Cool completely before frosting.

Chocolate Frosting:

  1. In a mixing bowl add Pioneer® Confectioners Powdered Sugar, cocoa, vanilla, and butter; blend ingredients at low speed with an electric mixer.
  2. Start with 5 tablespoons of milk and gradually add more milk to achieve desired consistency. Spread frosting evenly over brownies. Cut into squares.

Cooks Note

Using a smaller amount of milk makes a thick frosting; more milk makes a thinner frosting.
