BBQ Burgers

  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • ¼ C ketchup
  • 2 T steak sauce
  • 1 T water
  • 1 – 2 tsp. Pioneer® Sugar
  • 1 tsp. vinegar
  • few dashes hot pepper sauce (optional)
  • 1 – 1 ¼ lb. lean ground beef
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • ¼ tsp. pepper
  • 4 hamburger buns, split & toasted


  1. In a small saucepan combine garlic, ketchup, steak sauce, water, Pioneer® Sugar, vinegar and hot pepper sauce (if desired). Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 3 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
  2. In a medium bowl combine beef, salt and pepper; mix. Shape into four ¾-inch thick patties; set on a plate until ready to grill.
  3. Brush sauce once or twice during the last 5 minutes of grilling time.
  4. Remove burgers from grill and place on prepared hamburger buns. Spoon any remaining sauce over burgers.
  5. Top burgers with cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles if desired.

Charcoal Grilling:

  1. Grill burgers on the rack of an uncovered grill directly over medium coals for 14 to 18 minutes turning once halfway through grilling.

Gas Grilling:

  1. Preheat grill. Reduce heat to medium and adjust heat for direct grilling. Place burgers on grill rack over heat. Cover and grill 12-15 minutes or until done. Turn once during grilling.
