Apple Sauce

  • 3 lbs. Michigan Apples
  • ¾ C water
  • 3-4 T lemon juice or apple cider
  • ¼ C Pioneer® Sugar
  • ¼ C Pioneer® Golden Light Brown Sugar
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon or to taste
  • ¼ tsp. nutmeg (optional)


  1. Peel, core and slice apples. In a large pot, add apples, water, lemon juice, Pioneer® Sugar, Pioneer® Golden Light Brown Sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg.
  2. Cook over medium-low heat stirring occasionally for 30-40 minutes or until apples are soft.
  3. Remove from heat and mash with hand masher or puree with hand blender until desired consistency is achieved (some may like it chunky).
  4. Store in air tight containers or jars in refrigerator. Freezes well up to a year.

Cooks Note

If sauce is too sweet add more lemon juice.
