  • ½ C butter
  • ½ C Pioneer® Sugar
  • dash of salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. almond extract
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • ½ C almonds, finely chopped or ground
  • 1 ½ C all-purpose flour

  • 1 egg white
  • ½ tsp. water
  • 2 T Pioneer® Sugar
  • 2 T almonds, finely chopped or ground

  1. Cream butter and Pioneer® Sugar together in a large bowl. Add salt and egg; beat until light and fluffy. Add almond and vanilla extracts, and chopped almonds; mix well. Gently stir flour into mixture a little at a time. Mix well. Chill one hour or until dough can be handled easily.
  2. Preheat oven to 325° F. Grease a cookie sheet; set aside.
  3. Pinch off small pieces of dough and form into rope-like shapes, about the size of your index finger. Bend into a curve to form a crescent and place on prepared baking sheet about 1-inch apart.  Add the topping.
  4. Bake for about 20 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool completely before storing.

Topping Directions:

  1. Beat egg white lightly with water and brush over each crescent with a pastry brush.
  2. Blend Pioneer® Sugar and almonds; sprinkle over crescents before baking.

*Optional Toppings:

  1. Lightly sprinkle Pioneer® Confectioners Powder Sugar over crescents about 10 minutes after removing from the oven for another topping option or as an additional topping. Another idea is when crescents are completely cool, melt some chocolate and dip one end into the chocolate for a chocolatey almond flavor. Enjoy!
